“MobiKwik” is a platform that provides online payments solution. And that was founded by Upasana Taku and become a India’s first female fintech head.

Upasana Taku was born in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. She is a Co-founder, Chairperson and CFO of Mobikwik and founder of Zaakpay.

Early life & Education :-
She was born in Kashmiri family which is academicians family and she also grew up with academicians. She completed her schooling in Surat. After schooling for higher studies she went Jalandhar, in Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology she completes her engineering in B.Tech. After graduation for postgraduation she went USA and she holds masters in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.
After completing her postgraduation her career started in 2004. She worked as a business analyst in product management, where she was put her self in best in such areas like marketing, market research. In 2006 she joined PayPal, where she worked as senior Product Manager. During this position she learned about payment systems, also gained knowledge about fraud management, design, risk detection and user experience.
After these all experiences inspired her for founding MobiKwik in 2009. Upasana Taku launched Zaakpay in 2012, which is payment service by MobiKwik, which offers online payments solution.
Career :-
During her corporate job she realized that she don’t want corporate job for life long, she also comfortable with her job. She believe in work becoming too easy even she worked on high projects. But she wanted to back to Indian and join Indian startup ecosystem. And it was turning point for upasana’s career.
On her decision her family is didn’t agree to her for back to India, because they feels that was a big risk. She had a successful and comfort job life at paypal. Despite all this, in 2008 she was back to India.
She worked with Drishtee, a rural microfinance NGO, in Bihar during she was figuring out her next step. She worked with this NGO for helping to empower local communities.
During working on her dream project, she meet Bipin Preet Singh in India as a friend, they shares each others ideas and vision for payment industry in India.
“It was a time when our parents would go to nearby shop to recharge phones and that is when the idea of a mobile wallet business struck us which could pave a way to make consumer payments simpler. Fast forward to now, India is at the cusp of digital revolution and the payments industry is witnessing a disruption like never before. We kind of saw this coming almost a decade ago,” said upasana taku in Interview.
About Mobikwik :-
Bipin Preet Singh is a CEO of MobiKwik and also husband of Upasana Taku. This brand is one of India’s mobile wallets and online payment platform. This app allow people to make payments like bank transfer, mobile recharge, FD, investments, digital loans and many more. This platform also provide pocket UPI, this helps user to make payments without linking their bank accounts. They peoples hard work made this brand most trusted and most used platform in India.

This platform team grow into 6 member in 2011. In starting days they work from home even on wedding days, they both people works hard for the company and later they opens theirs first office on rent, which have five rooms. By 2012 company grow and they made a team of people 35. They applied for RBI’s PPI license in September 2012 and they got in July 2013.
This is miracle moment for company and first funding of company was $5 million, and that was enough for them to open theirs own office in Udyog Vihar, Gurugram with 50 peoples staff. The second round of funding was came in 2015.
This brand achieved major achievements and become a unicorn startup in 2021. And launching its IPO in 2024.
